The Gaming Brief:
- Virgin Media, an Irish broadband provider, will pay one winner €100 (about $112) an hour for eight hours of GTA VI, or €800 in total
- The promotion is limited to Ireland, and the winner needs their own PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
- Applicants write 100 to 200 words explaining why they deserve it, and applications close November 15
- GameSpot reports the review must be posted on Instagram or TikTok with a paid-ad disclosure
A €100-an-hour GTA VI gig sounds like a dream job, and Virgin Media is calling it exactly that.
The Irish broadband provider will pay one winner about $112 an hour to play Grand Theft Auto VI for eight hours and review it.
The catch is in the terms: the promotion is limited to Ireland, requires a console you already own, and, according to GameSpot, comes with public posting and ad-disclosure rules.
The game launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC release yet.
€800 for Eight Hours: How the Virgin Media Offer Works
€100 an hour over eight hours comes to €800, roughly $895.
Virgin Media says it will buy the game, which GameSpot lists as the $100 Ultimate Edition, and the winner can split the eight hours across the week and the applicants must be 18 or older.
GameSpot says the winner is chosen at random from the applications and contacted within seven days.
Entrepreneur quotes a Virgin Media hiring manager advising applicants to have fun with their entry, so the selection process is described differently by the two outlets.
The Hardware Catch: You Need Your Own PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
Virgin Media is buying the game, not a console, and GTA VI is launching only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Storage matters too, as we are getting a reported 210GB PS5 download, though not confirmed by Rockstar yet.
Against a base PS5’s usable storage of about 667GB, which comes to nearly a third.
As per GamingTechZone’s arithmetic, 210GB at a sustained 100 Mbps takes roughly 4.7 hours before any of the eight paid hours begin.
Paid-Ad Rules and a Timing Question
The winner must post a review on Instagram or TikTok, tag Virgin Media, and disclose that it is a paid ad.
Entrepreneur describes the requirement as sharing an honest review with Virgin Media, without mentioning public posting. Applicants can check the full terms and conditions published by Virgin Media.
Timing is another open point. Applications close November 15, four days before launch, and Virgin Media says it will contact the winner within seven days, so the schedule doesn’t promise a day-one start.
Virgin Media also reportedly says the first GTA VI trailer topped 300 million YouTube views, which explains why it expects heavy interest.
