Brandon Stirrup, a senior business strategy manager at Xbox, posted a thread on X claiming that anyone can build a game with AI, as PC Gamer reports.
What He Actually Claimed?
Stirrup said he “vibe coded a bad but improvable game” over two days, with about three hours of active work.
“I’m telling you I tried it and it’s true…anyone can build a game,” he wrote, adding that studios avoiding AI are “planning for a fake future.”
Tech Insider reports the game is a rough football title built in Unreal Engine with Model Context Protocol tools, with an AI agent testing and iterating on the build. Stirrup also said he had never attempted a video game before.
The Fallout
PC Gamer reports that Stirrup has since removed his X account. An unnamed Xbox source said he deactivated it because of the volume of replies.
There is no official Microsoft or Xbox statement on this, and Tech Insider notes it’s unverified whether his view reflects company policy.
One more correction worth making: neither article quotes an Xbox CEO. This is one manager’s opinion, not a company announcement.
Why Players Should Care
A three-hour prototype has no release date, price, or budget.
The real impact is volume. Steam Next Fest data shows over 1,000 of 8,400+ demos across the first two 2026 editions were labeled AI-assisted.
For Xbox Game Pass subscribers, the distinction matters because discovery is part of the experience, making clear quality signals and player reviews even more useful when deciding what to try.
According to TechInsider, GDC’s 2026 State of the Game Industry survey found 52% of 2,300 respondents said generative AI is harming the industry, up from 18% two years earlier.
Meanwhile, a Quantic Foundry survey cited at Gamescom found 85% held a less-than-neutral view.
