The Gaming Brief:
- PlayStation Game Size, which reads PlayStation Store backend data, lists GTA VI at a 210GB download on PS5, and Insider Gaming corroborated it
- Pre-load opens November 12, a week before the November 19 midnight launch, with the Standard edition at $79.99
- Rockstar hasn’t published an official size, and no Xbox Series X|S figure has been listed
- Retail copies ship with download codes rather than discs, so physical buyers face the same download
GTA VI’s PS5 file size has surfaced, and the useful question isn’t just how big it is.
PlayStation Game Size, an X account that reads PlayStation Store backend data, lists a 210GB download, as Insider Gaming notes. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed an official figure though.
Pre-loading opens November 12, one week before the November 19 midnight launch. For anyone on a base PS5 or a modest connection, the storage and download-time numbers decide how ready you are.
210GB Takes Nearly a Third of a Base PS5’s Usable Storage
That file size is about one third of the usable capacity of PS5, which is about 667GB. Some reports frames it as a quarter of a standard PS5’s storage.
Reports also note that the 210GB figure applies to both PS5 and the pricy PS5 Pro, and Notebookcheck notes the Pro’s 2TB internal drive gives its owners far more room.
The Download Math: 4.7 Hours at 100 Mbps, and a 2.8 Mbps Floor
At 100 Mbps, 210GB takes about 4.7 hours. At 50 Mbps it takes about 9.3 hours, and at 25 Mbps about 18.7 hours.
The seven-day pre-load window works out to a minimum of roughly 2.8 Mbps sustained just to finish before launch. Real-world speeds and PlayStation Store throttling will vary, so treat these as best-case figures.
These numbers are GamingTechZone’s own arithmetic, assuming sustained speeds and decimal gigabytes.
Retail Copies Still Mean a Download, and 210GB May Not Be Final
Kotaku earlier noted that physical GTA VI copies would ship as download codes rather than discs, which Rockstar has confirmed, so buying a retail box doesn’t skip the download.
Kotaku cautions that the 210GB figure doesn’t include a day-one patch, future content updates or DLC, or whatever GTA Online turns into, so it could change by launch.
For scale, GTA V’s PS Store page lists a minimum of 148.2GB, which makes GTA VI roughly 42% larger by our arithmetic.
